Director/Principal
Job Description
The Director/Principal of the Learning and Loving Education Center, a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of the Presentation, is accountable to the Sisters of the Presentation
(PBVM) Board of Directors for the mission and administration of the Center.
Mission Statement
The Learning and Loving Education Center, a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of the Presentation, strives to be an agent of change encouraging immigrant women to build relationships among themselves, their families and the community. Through literacy, technology and basic skills education women acquire necessary abilities for further self-development. The Center provides the women's pre-school children with the essential skills for kindergarten readiness. The Center's educational approach nurtures the student's future success and advancement.
Responsibilities include but not limited:
- To insure that the Learning and Loving Education Center's mission statement based on the Mission of the Sisters of the Presentation is carried out effectively and in the spirit of mutuality.
Administration
- To provide for the overall administration of the day to day operations of the Center.
- To initiate and to maintain communication and a positive working relationship with employees and other support staff.
- To assume responsibility for hiring and for the performance evaluations of all personnel.
- To serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees.
- To work with and support the Center's Development Director in the important work of writing grants and obtaining funding from foundations, corporations and individual donors as the major sources of income for the Center.
- To prepare with the Bookkeeper and Development Director, the annual financial report for review and approval by the PBVM Board of Directors.
- To oversee the maintenance of the plant, i.e. lease, insurance etc.
- Oversee the Center's Website and Facebook account
Education
- To collaborate with the Curriculum Directors of the ESL, Computer and Pre-school regarding the different curriculum components, changes and improvements.
- To encourage on-going education training and updating for teachers and volunteers.
Community Relations
- To foster a strong spirit of welcome and hospitality for all who come to the Center: students, volunteer teachers, donors, workshop presenters and visitors.
- To produce the SEED, the newsletter that is sent out to friends, supporters and grantees of the Center twice a year.
- To provide leadership for the current volunteers, working with Volunteer Match, AAUW, Retired Teachers' Group from the Diocese of San Jose to welcome new volunteers who want to offer their gift of presence to the Center.
- To be the public face of the Center reaching out to the Community at large, keeping the mission and accomplishments of the Center in the forefront.
Requirements
- Willingness to embrace and foster the charism and mission of the Sisters of the Presentation.
- Have an active teaching credential and some administration experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Adequate knowledge of finance, budgets, investments etc.
- Basic computer skills and an openness to new educational technologies.
Salary and benefits commensurate with education and experience
